4 Guidelines For Twitter Success
What is twitter?
Twitter is a micro-blogging website or service. What micro-blogging means is that it is a site where you can blog but you are limited to 140 characters or less.
In 140 characters you need to convey the message that you want. Usually it’s something short, like what you’re having for lunch, the plane they just crashed off the runway, or the pictures of the terrorists in Mumbai.
Who uses twitter?
Twitter has a global reach, which is one of its strengths. The way it works is like this, after you sign up for an account, you can then start following people, and people can start following you.
How do you choose people to follow?
Your criteria for choosing who to follow, is something that is personal to you.
Perhaps you want to follow people that are celebrities such as MC Hammer, Shaquille O’Neal, Lance Armstrong, or maybe you just want to follow someone that is a friend of yours or perhaps you want to do a mixture, or even perhaps you want to follow just marketers.
Whichever way that you choose to do it’s entirely up to you as far as what you’re following criteria is going to be.
How do I get people to follow me?
As far as getting people to follow you, here are some tips:
- Don’t spam: what I mean by this is don’t only send out offers to join your list, articles related to just marketing, or only send out tweets that relate to your business. Nobody cares. The people on twitter generally care about the people on twitter, not necessarily the people on twitter’s business.
- Be engaging: Like I just mentioned, the people on twitter are interested in the people twitter. So say something interesting, be yourself just don’t be a marketing robot.
- Be entertaining: say something fun, refer people to a fun website, the more fun you are the more people will follow you.
- The number of followers is not a scorecard: it doesn’t matter if you have 10,000 followers, 50 followers or 10 followers. Each one of those followers is a person and is a person that you should try to interact with.
These are just some general tips. Think of these as a 10,000 foot overview of guidelines that I feel will help your twitter experience. Remember, it’s all about being social. Twitter has been described as a worldwide cocktail party, treat it as such.

Make Money Mini Blogging – Should You Use Twitter?
A blog takes time, but what if you could blog just 28 words to make money? Mini blogging is a new trend online. Discover how to make this form of marketing work for you.
There are several different mini blogging applications you can use; Twitter is one of them. I admit, when I first discovered Twitter I thought it was a waste of time, but lately it’s become one of my favorite marketing tools.
Warning: Mini Blogging Is Not Direct Marketing
The mini blogging tools are a form of social media; they keep you in touch with your friends. This means that using them as a direct marketing tool, by twittering items like “Buy this [link]” for example, will ensure that no one pays attention to you.
Since these are SOCIAL tools, use Twitter to make friends first. Then your marketing will be a natural extension of your social activities.
How to Use Twitter for Marketing
Since you can’t market directly from Twitter, you need a Web site or blog to share your marketing endeavors. Don’t be concerned if you don’t already have a site. Build your relationships on Twitter, and when your site is ready, you can Twitter about your work on the site, to provide an immediate flow of traffic.
Once you have a Web site, link the site to Twitter by going to the Settings tab on Twitter, and adding your URL to the More Info URL field, and pressing the Save button. Now your site is accessible directly from your Twitter Profile. Anyone who want to learn more about you, can access your site.
Then just continue to add items to Twitter. If you’re promoting a new product in affiliate marketing for example, tell your Twitter friends about it. But lots of fun social messages too.
The big benefit of Twitter is the social network you develop, and the constant and increasing flow of traffic to your Web site which develops from this. As your Twitter followers increase – and the people you’re following increase too, your network and traffic grows. With more traffic, the make your mini blogging activities generate grows too.

Micro Blogging Has the Network Marketing Industry All A-Twitter
Micro Blogging is the newest Web 2.0 sensation, and savvy marketers are cashing in on the craze.
Why should the competition have all the FUN??
The best way to describe micro blogging is “text messaging on steroids.”
If Google is sitting up and taking notice of Twitter, Pownce, and Tumblr…then I’m on it!
I’m assuming you’re serious about your internet business or you wouldn’t be reading this, so let me explain what all the fuss is about micro blogging and why…
You, as a network marketer can’t be late to this Web 2.0 “party”!!
If you check out alexa.com, you’ll find that twitter is the 904th most popular site on the entire internet. It was developed last year and became popular among techno-gurus at the 2007 South by Southwest Conference in Austin, Texas.
The fact that it’s a relatively new player is EXACTLY why you should be paying attention.
I did a site check on Google, and Twitter has 22.4 MILLION indexed pages. That means Google is paying attention, and if Google is sitting up and noticing, you need to jump on this opportunity to make it work for your business.
When you put your content related to your business opportunity on Twitter and other micro blogging sites like Pownce, Tumblr, and Jaiku, Google’s spiders follow…your pages will get indexed…your properties will rank…and you’ll make more $.
So…exactly what is micro blogging? Think about how many times a day you ask someone, “What are you doing right now?”
Part of the magic of Twitter is that it limits you to 140 characters per post, forcing you to make pithy statements on the fly.
Imagine what this could mean as far as FREE leads to your business!
As an internet marketer, you’re able to connect with potential prospects without investing a lot of time, and it can be done from your cell phone, from email, Instant Messager…quick, to the point, easy. They get to know you and trust you.
It’s tough to get people’s attention today.
They’re bombarded with media, their email boxes are stuffed, and they’re stressed for time. Like MySpace when it first broke out, Twitter allows people to become your friend or subscribe to your RSS feed.
According “Black Hat Web Marketer” Howie Schwartz, internet marketers using MySpace to promote their businesses are finding it more difficult because it’s getting saturated as opposed to its early days when there was little competition.
MySpace is dying…Twitter is the new MySpace.
Here are a few basic tips to help you get the most out of micro-blogging without being overwhelmed…or overwhelming others:
- Consider your audience: Remember you are writing to potential business prospects. Make sure you’re giving them something of value.
- Post regularly but not too often: Twitter has a “nudge” feature that reminds you to post if you haven’t done so for awhile. So keep the posts coming, but don’t inundate your audience.
- Don’t include personal details in an open broadcast: If your feed is public and you have a lot of “followers” or “friends” who you don’t know well, you might consider leaving out some specific details about where you are and what you’re doing. “I’m at the grocery store” might be better than “I’m at the Wal-Mart on Grove St.”
Listen, the internet is like a woman playing hard to get…difficult to pin down, next to impossible to guess its moods, but oh so rewarding when you give it what it wants. How you market on the internet depends on how Google is feeling. You have to learn to read its moods.
Money is made on the internet early on before your competitors jump in on the action.
You have to take advantage of these hot, new stars when they make their appearance…your business depends on “getting to the party” first!
