Power Steps to Promote Your Blog

Everyone says that having a blog on your site is a great way of getting traffic to your website. So you installed a blog and started to post on a regular basis. Now, how exactly does it get all this great traffic?

There really isn’t anything magical about a blog where traffic is concerned. A blog is a content management system. You enter content and it creates pages. The pages on your blog aren’t any different from the pages on the rest of your website as far as search engines are concerned.

It’s a myth that search engines like blogs better than standard websites. A page is a page and content is content. What is different is the ease in which you can add new pages of content.

Where a blog does excel as a traffic generator is that it is not reliant on search engines for traffic. A blog doesn’t wait for a search engine to come read it. It has it’s own way of reaching out and telling others that there is something new and fresh to be read and that is the RSS feed.

By submitting your RSS feed to directories and making it available on the blog itself for individuals to subscribe to, you insure that new posts get noticed by a wide audience everything you add something new.

If you can take a day or two out to make the rounds off all of the RSS and Blog directories, you will be pleased with the results when your posts start to turn into instant traffic magnets.

You can promote your blog directly by adding it to your email and forum signatures. Mention it in the author bio of your web articles and publish the link on your main website. Take your RSS feed over to Feedburner.com and have it converted into a little animated billboard that you can publish wherever you want people to be able to read your most recent blog headines.

One way to attract blog traffic is to take some time to post comments on other people’s blogs. Don’t turn into a blog spammer by any means. Visit blogs that interest you and make appropriate and interesting comments, then include a link to your own blog as a courtesy.

Your blog will create additional traffic for you over time if you’ll provide the means for it to happen.

Making Money with your Blog

How would you like to be able to make some money from your blog? Depending on your subject matter, it is possible. Let’s look at some ways to get started.

There was a lot of hype in the last year or so about turning your blog into a cash machine. Many of the ebooks and programs promoted were pretty scammy in general and involved using blogs to generate huge amounts of replicated content and then filling the pages with contextual advertising programs. This is not what we’re going to recommend in this article.

If you’re blogging to help in promoting your business, you may already feel like you’re making money from your blog since you’re pulling in traffic and talking about your business. You could further monetize your efforts by promoting related affiliate programs or displaying contextual advertising.

Affiliate Programs

We’ll let you know right away that grabbing a banner or button from an affiliate program to post on your blog is not going to be a big cash machine for you. People visit blogs to read the blogs not look at advertisements. But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t use affiliate programs to earn extra money.

What you do need to do is blog about the programs that you want to promote. Share a personal recommendation. Talk about how you use the product. And don’t just post about it once. Revisit a favorite product a few weeks down the road, and then again the next month. Don’t be spammy and hit your visitors over the head with sales messages. Just let them know how much you like it.

Contextual Advertising

In our experience, Google Adsense rarely seems to perform well on a blog. Yet, it’s the easiest to incorporate and a few have indicated that they do earn a steady if small income from their blog ad units.

There are other contextual options such as Chikita Mini Malls and ad units from Yahoo, MSN and Gazoogle. The biggest drawback in ad units is that you never know what might show up on your blog. You’ll have to decide if the profit earned is worth the space you give.

Serve Your Own Ads

If you find that serving ads for others is unprofitable, consider creating your own text ads and promote your own items and affiliate products in that space.

Content Management and Building Great Content

Two Keys to Online Success

Providing informative content is invaluable to online marketers. On a crowded internet, it is necessary to grab the attention of your readers with your blog or website, setting the platform for you as an expert within your chosen field of services and products. Quite often, internet marketers struggle to write successful web content; they may know the facts, but have a hard time communicating them; or, they may find it hard to keep up a constant stream of ideas; and still others may just lack the time to do the writing, plain and simple. Once it is written it needs to be managed, but there are innumerable tools to do that. In all of these cases hiring a freelance writer enables the online entrepreneur to get the job done.

Quality Content: Why And What Internet Marketers Need

In order to grow your business, you need to sell your business. Selling your business entails providing the right amount of high quality content to your blog or website. Most often choosing just a few wrong words results in misunderstandings and poor communication; that equals poor results and no sales for your business.

Many blog and website owners require content related to a variety of topics that may include, but certainly will not be limited to:

  • Travel Tips
  • Small Business
  • Home Based Businesses
  • Banking
  • Funds
  • Becoming Debt Free
  • Web Design
  • Graphic Design
  • Advertising
  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Writing
  • Freelancing
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Massage Therapy
  • Lawsuit Loans
  • Online Degrees
  • Distance Learning Schools

The list is endless for topics that webmasters and bloggers need in order to provide outstanding content for newsletters, websites, blog posts, and supporting content (such as articles, ebooks, reports…); but providing readers with high quality content, allowing them to expand greatly on many topics of interests they had limited knowledge to, greatly increases a reader’s knowledge, and so also their appreciation of your site and services, and therefore their loyalty to you.

What Content Management Really Means

Content management is the act of managing and tracking a business or organization’s content on the web with a variety of tools. Some of the more important to understand follow.

  • Active X is a programming language developed by Microsoft permitting graphic customer applications to be written and accessed from a web browser. Active X are controls incorporated into web site and automatically downloaded for users.
  • Ad Rotation pertains to ad targeting and displaying many different advertisements from members of a certain list. Advertisements are changed on a site for many different user sessions and rotated on a regular basis preventing reuse and tiring banner advertisements.
  • Active Server Page is an HTML page which includes scripts processed on a web server before a certain web page is to be served to a user’s web browser which is usually ran on Microsoft’s Internet Information Server. Information is processed and supplied by the user in online forms.
  • Above the fold is a term created from print media, utilized to indicate if content is displayed on a page without needing to scroll, determining the exact position of the fold by screen resolution of one’s personal computer.
  • Channel Promotion is a tool that assesses the reason a person may visit a particular site, which advertisements they have seen, and which advertisements they were referred from.
  • Collaborative Filtering profiles clients who are interested in delivery of informative content and offers based on certain interests of other clients.
  • Conversion Marketing is utilizing communications, maximizing the conversion of potential clients to actual clients. In short it is the content that convinces visitors to do more than just read, to buy or act, or convert into profitable clientele (through whatever monetization method is promoted).

Fitting The Two Together

Separately these are the two pieces to the whole that do little on their own; they need to work together to develop a successful online business. Neither one is any good without the other; the various tools and concepts rely on your having good quality content to begin with; without good content, there is nothing to manage.

Fortunately, there are professionals in both sides of the business to pick up where your time and expertise leave off. By utilizing ghostwriting services and webmaster services as needed, you can put the pieces of the puzzle together for one complete, profitable whole.
