Maximizing Your Free Traffic Funnel From Google

There are numerous ways to get free traffic to your website. This free traffic is very important, obviously because it cuts the amount of money that you need to budget for advertising dramatically – or it enables you to spend more advertising dollars on paid advertising media. Google plays an important role in terms of generating free traffic.

Using natural search marketing techniques, which basically employ search engine optimization techniques, you can move your website listing up through the ranks in the Google search engine.

This search engine optimization includes both on-page optimization, as well as off-page optimization, where you get one-way, inbound links to your site on important websites that already have high search engine listing for their keywords.

Essentially, you make sure that your HTML code is clean, that you have used your keywords effectively within your content, that your links are anchored with your keywords in the text, that you use your keywords in the ‘alt’ tags, that you use meta tags, and that your keyword is included in the title tag of your page, as well as in bold, with an H1 or H2 HTML tag on the content portion of your page.

But once you get traffic, you need to learn how to maximize it. Set up an opt-in page, which may also be called a capture page, a squeeze page, or a gateway page, which your visitors will go through before getting to your website content. This page will request the visitor’s first name and email address, and if you are offering them something for free in exchange, such as an E-Book or report, they will happily provide you with this information.

This information is then sent to your auto responder, where you can market to these visitors over and over again, bringing them back to your site again and again, without having to get them to come back to you through the search engine.

By capturing names and email addresses in this way, you can truly maximize the free traffic that you are getting from Google, and you will find that you have more repeat visitors, which in turn amounts to more sales.

Have you seen those websites that contain hundreds of content pages? Do you wonder how people put those sites up so fast? It’s a lot easier than you think, if you use the right strategy for building content rich web sites.

First, when building a content rich website, instead of using the outdated method of doing each page, one at a time, use the technology that we have today to your advantage.

You can create, find, or buy a website template, where you just paste content in, but that is still too slow for many.

The best option today is to use a content management system, such as Joomla. You can find or buy existing templates that can be plugged into your CMS, or you can have one designed specifically – and only – for you and your website – one that is truly unique.

When you use a content management system like this, getting the content up on your site is fast and easy. Just paste it into the form within the administrative area of the site, tell the system where you want it linked, and submit it. You’re done! But where are you going to get hundreds of pages of content fast?

You have four viable options: You can write the content yourself, you can hire someone else to write it for you, you can use free content that you find on the Internet, or you can buy private label rights content and either rewrite it or have someone else rewrite it.

The first option, writing the content yourself, is of course the slowest way to get content for your site. But if you hire people to write it for you, you could assign 10 writers 50 articles each, and have 500 articles to use for content in about a week’s time. All you have to do is login and put it on the site.

Using free content, while acceptable, is a bad idea. You will be publishing content that has already been published, and the search engines will penalize your site for having duplicate content in terms of where you will rank in their listings. If you are not depending on the search engines for traffic, however, this is an option.

Finally, consider using private label rights content. This content must be rewritten, in most cases, but again, if you employ some writers to rewrite the content for you, the work will be good to use, and it will be much cheaper than having fresh content written – and usually much faster as well.

Time Management For Writers – Task Triage

Is time management difficult for you? Most writers aren’t as productive as they could be; procrastination is a challenge. Task triage can help.

Let’s look at three tips which will help you to manage your time, so that not only do you have more time for your writing, you get more done.

Choose Your Goals and Commit

Your first step is to choose goals and commit to them.

Successful writers take their time in setting goals, but once they’ve set them, rarely change them. For these writers, setting a goal is a commitment to themselves.

Struggling writers set goals quickly, and forget about them just as quickly.

Therefore, take your time in choosing at least one goal. Then, tell yourself that barring serious injury or death, you will persist until you achieve the goal.

Triage Tasks: Only Do What You Can Do

Once you’ve set a goal, you need to chunk it down. For example, let’s say your goal is: “I have a Web site by ___________ (a date three weeks from now.)”

You need to chunk this down, because you can’t “do” a goal, you can only do tasks.

Just make a list of tasks: “buy a domain name, get hosting, write the content for four Web pages, create the site, get it online”.

Add each task to your calendar or diary, with an estimate of the time the task will take.

Certain tasks, such as “write the content for four Web pages” will need to be chunked down even further, so that each chunk takes less than half an hour. Efficient chunking, slicing up tasks, is the secret to eliminating procrastination.

But what’s triage? Triage means only doing what YOU can do, and outsourcing or delegating the rest. In our example, you could outsource everything except the writing.

Just Show up Every Day: Results Are Cumulative

“Time management” is exactly that; managing the time you have. Once you’ve set a goal, keep going until you achieve that goal.

If you do, then goal setting and achieving will become a habit, and your life will become easier for one reason: you’ve taken control of the only thing you can manage in your life — yourself.

Avoid second-guessing your goals once you’ve set them. You’ll find that if you just keep completing your tasks, that everything you do is cumulative. It’s like a snowball rolling down a hill. It starts small, and then gets bigger.

Just show up and complete your tasks.

Setting goals and task triage is the secret of successful time management for writers.

Search Engine Optimisation With a Content Management System

There are many low cost and free content management systems (CMS’s). You can also commission the building of your own if you have the money. Whichever path you choose your first task is to ensure the website conforms to the accepted industry standards in terms of its construction. Good code is a good plan and it’s just as easy to do it right as it is to do it wrong. The same goes for SEO. You should ensure for example:

  • Each page allows for Search Engine Friendly (human readable) URL’s. You should be able to manipulate these.
  • Each page has a unique title tag. Again you need to be able to manipulate these on a per page basis. Keywords in title tags are VERY useful.
  • Each page allows for a unique meta description tag. For the most part Google uses the meta description tag for the text snippet it displays in the search engine results page or SERP.
  • Each page allows for unique meta keywords. Although considered redundant it’s better to be safe than sorry with meta keywords
  • The content management system (CMS) should allow for the easy addition of site wide code to aid the use of website analytics software a VITAL tool in the SEO process
  • The CMS should automatically update its site map and create an XML feed to ensure Google is informed immediately of any site additions. Doing this manually is NOT recommended.
  • The CMS should as far as possible use clean CSS based design to reduce the ratio of content to HTML on each page. This makes it easier for the search engine robots to establish the subject matter within a page
  • The CMS should promote and assist the use of correct on-page HTML tagging, such as H1 for the most important headings. Again this helps the search engine robots correctly index a page
  • The CMS should ensure canonical issues are considered and dealt with. In simple terms each page should as far as possible have only ONE version.

All of the above, and more, play their part in the way a website performs in the search engines. Ensuring your system ticks these boxes is vital. Getting this bit wrong will prove expensive.

So many CMS systems make life difficult for their users. The last thing you want to do is spend money on a site only to discover the search engines can’t make any sense of it.
