How to Use Twitter For Your Business
To Twitter Or Not to Twitter, That is the Question
Using Twitter, the micro blogging social media site, is a lot like running up and down the stairs; you can say hello to someone, but the may be on the next floor before you hear their reply. Used correctly, Twitter gives you access to some of the great minds in marketing and online business, as well as the rest of us, just tweeting to learn more and to connect with others.
I started using Twitter in the fall of 2007. Along with millions of other people, I thought the idea of telling strangers what I was doing was just plain stupid. I would write something every once in a while, and finally started following people I knew or had heard of, and others began following me.
Finally, in the summer of 2008, Twitter took off like lightning. Suddenly I had hundreds of followers, and people were joining my list after finding me there. I was able to have my blog posts automatically tweeted, as well as my articles that were published on Ezine Articles. I devoted thirty minutes each day to tweeting, divided equally at morning, noon, and night.
If you aren’t on Twitter, I encourage you to join immediately. Search for people who are doing something you are interested in, or those in your niche. Follow the people they follow and then start adding to the conversation. It may seem pointless at first, but wait until you have an important question and see how many people rush to give you an answer.
One warning to all of you who are just getting started – Twitter can be addicting and take you away from your daily work. So use it sparingly and let it become a part of what you do online, not the only thing you do. When I write articles or post to my blog, I do not tweet in between paragraphs. This is important so that you don’t lose focus.
You can also add your twitter name to your email signature line, business cards, and anywhere else you have your name and site listed. This gives people an opportunity to read your bio, check out your blog, and see if they are interested in following you. Update regularly, even if it is something short, so that you will be a valuable person to follow. Use Twitter to its full advantage, and you will be amazed at how much you will receive in return.
